Universal Optical Transceivers
The core of our business
Optical transceivers (also known as modules or optical modules) are an indispensable element of network infrastructure, needed to convert electrical signals to optical signals and vice versa. Transceivers are at the very core of our business. In recent years, Salumanus has delivered more than 1,000,000 transceivers, including tuneable SFP+/XFP transceivers, QSFP/QSFP28/QSFP-DD, CFP, CFP2 transceivers and coherent transceivers.
We have created our own brand, GBC Photonics, which allows us to control the quality of all our products from the design stage to their performance in network devices. We can also modify their functions in response to specific client needs. All our transceivers are tested and developed in our own fibre-optic lab.
The transceivers manufactured by GBC Photonics are compatible with the network devices of all main suppliers and comply with the applicable market standards. We offer transceivers for all the interfaces currently available in the market: SFP/SFP+, QSFP/QSFP28/QSFP-DD, XFP and CFP/CFP2/CFP4.

A great mind in a small body
The GBC Photonics universal optical transceiver was designed to make life easier for network designers, engineers, and storage specialists. The transceiver smartly adapts to the needs of network admins; it allows services at various speeds to be provided, depending on the existing fibre-optic infrastructure, and is compatible with the network devices of most manufacturers.
The transceiver has countless possible applications since it can be reprogrammed to work at different speeds and handle various transmission protocols.
The GBC Photonics universal transceiver can be used, for instance, in:
- 10G and 25G Ethernet DWDM networks;
- the mobile fronthaul area, including 5G networks (the transceiver supports the CPRI/ eCPRI protocol and has a greater working temperature range);
- tuneable network devices (as a tuneable transceiver);
- DWDM systems as a self-tuning transceiver that adapts to the available multiplexer channel.
The universal transceiver can be reconfigured multiple times using a GBC Photonics SRD. This allows any further investments to be avoided when the compatibility of the transceiver needs to change.
The less you replace your transceivers, the less e-waste you generate. Our universal transceivers facilitate purchasing processes and allow you to reduce storage, which brings tangible benefits to your business and the environment.

Simple Recode Device
Flexible network solutions
The GBC Photonics Simple Recode Device (SRD) is designed to program the transceiver to work with almost any network device in the market. The SRD facilitates network infrastructure management and helps address one of the most pervasive problems of fibre-optic configuration: the incompatibility between transceivers and the rest of the fibre-optic equipment.
The GBC Photonics SRD changes the configuration of SFP/SFP+, XFP, QSFP+/QSFP28/QSFP-DD, CFP/CFP2/CFP4 transceivers in accordance with applicable MSA standards.
Apart from reprogramming transceivers, the SRD will also allow you to:
- reduce spare parts storage costs;
- simplify your transceiver purchasing and implementation processes;
- minimise the problem of long network equipment delivery times;
- change the channel number or wavelength of tuneable DWDM transceivers;
- take advantage of remote technical support services provided by an expert engineer;
- take care of the natural environment – reusing reprogrammed transceivers helps cut e-waste.
The GBC Photonics SRD is an element of an entire ecosystem based on the brand’s private cloud, which stores thousands of codes that can be independently employed by clients who use our transceivers.
Because our transceivers can be so easily reconfigured via the GBC Photonics SRD, your spare parts storage costs are greatly reduced. You no longer need to store many transceivers to match the network devices of various brands. This eases the burden on your buyers, engineers and storage specialists.
The GBC Photonics SRD may also be used to offer remote technical support. You can troubleshoot problems, receive new codes and get your environment tested without having to send transceivers to the servicing centre and back, which means considerable time and money savings.
Coherent modulation
Join the optical champions league
Coherent modulation is, simply put, the process of changing several signal parameters. We use modulation of the amplitude of the carrier signal and its frequency and phase toto encode the transmitted information.
Simply put, coherent modulation is a process in which several parameters of a signal are changed. To encode transmitted data, we have to modulate the amplitude of the carrier signal, as well as its frequency and phase.
The transmitter’s DSP (Digital Signal Processor) encodes the signal “on the fly” to create so-called constellations. Constellations are raster patterns of changing dots, which correspond to specific bit sets. The receiver’s DSP decodes these images, converting them into a digital data stream.
The advantages of coherent modulation include:
- it is incredibly high sensitivity, impossible to achieve with simpler modulation types
- the ability to decode data bits even from individual photons.
The latest generation of our transceivers, GBC Photonics QSFP-DD 400G, has arrived with uniform coherent solutions compliant with the OIF400ZR and MSA OpenZR+ standards. At the Salumanus lab, we have successfully demonstrated their compatibility with transceivers from three different manufacturers.
QSFP-DD-interface DWDM transceivers enable the transmission of data over large distances without the need for transponders. The “colour” transceiver may be inserted into the port of the network device and directly connected to the multiplexer. The clear line between transport and access systems is now increasingly blurred.
